Visit Scotland National Awards: 2024 Best Hotel Experience Award

We're thrilled to announce that Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa has been announced as a regional winner in the highly competitive Scottish Thistle Awards in the Best Hotel Experience category. This prestigious recognition underscores the hotel’s commitment to delivering an outstanding guest experience, further solidifying its reputation as one of Scotland’s premier destinations for luxury and relaxation.

The hotel won the award for its dedication to the guest journey, including a series of engaging campaigns which have capturing the imagination of visitors. One of the highlights this year has been the introduction of a fun-filled Beano family experience. The hotel created a special Denis Menace themed room as part of the ‘Blamazing Break’, a limited-edition two-night accommodation package.

The hotel is well known for going the extra mile for guests, including their elaborate towel art displays and in-room welcome gifts, not to mention Mick Dundee, the famous Apex Hotels rubber duck which guests receive on arrival.

The hotel has also been investing heavily in its facilities, to the tune of £4.5 million over the last 7 years, including £500,000 on its spa and gym, £300,000 on conference spaces and £2.5m invested on its 151 bedrooms.

£1.2m has been spent on upgrading the popular Quayside Bar & Grill bar and restaurant which was voted ‘The Most Instagrammable in Scotland’ after a study by Dojo in 2022.

More recently, the hotel was awarded the prestigious Green Tourism Gold Award for its work in creating a sustainable, low carbon experience for its guests.

Apex City Quay will be up against Kildrummy Inn and Glenapp Castle at the national finals which take place at the Hilton in Glasgow on the 24th November.

Paul Mooney, General Manager said: “It is a real honour to pick up a Visit Scotland Award and to win Best Hotel Experience is incredible for us. We work tirelessly on the quality of our guest journey so to be recognised for this is wonderful. I’d like to thank Visit Scotland for the award and all our dedicated staff and partners who made it happen.”

The hotel group was up against stiff competition with The Hilton, Leonardo Hotels, Sodexo and Wilson Vale also on the short list. Apex Hotels demonstrated a long term, companywide commitment to sustainable practices and policies which shone above the rest.

The group has put in place a comprehensive Carbon Action Plan designed to propel the organisation to NetZero and has committed over £1 million to reducing carbon emissions. The hotel group has also streamlined task and reduced waste by introducing a new Paperless Check-in and Invoicing system, as well as a new guest App to improve efficiency. A new Building Management System (BMS) has also yielded a 15% reduction in electricity consumption at Apex Waterloo Place in Edinburgh, with plans to roll out BMS across all its London properties.

Averil Wilson, Apex Hotels Managing Director said: “We are absolutely delighted to win the Sustainable Business accolade at the Springboard Awards last night. This is the culmination of a lot of hard work to embed sustainability at all levels of the organisation.

Carbon reduction is a major priority for the group going forward, and we know our guests’ buying choices are increasingly influenced by sustainable practices. It is important they feel reassured we are doing everything we can to create a cleaner more sustainable environment.”
